Will Amanda Lankey 'get justice?'

Family holds 8th vigil in memory of slain teen

WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WOOD) - Amanda Lankey would have turned 21 this weekend.

Instead, it was the eighth time her family held a vigil in her memory -- which they believe will be the last vigil. The Lankey family believes this year, the slain teen will "finally get justice."

At the vigil Saturday night, Lankey's mother, Victoria Foster, made an impassioned plea.

"We ask, and we beg, and we cry, and we ask again. We ask that these people come forward, come forward and do the right thing," she said. "The right thing being finally letting Amanda's soul rest."

In June 2004, when she was 13, she was last seen alive at the home of Cecil Wallis Sr. Her body was later found in the Manistee National Forest, not far from White Cloud.

Detectives investigated several people in the Lankey case, including Wallis and his son, Cecil Wallis Jr.

In 2011, police went into Wallis Sr.'s home looking for Amanda's DNA. He was long considered a person of interest in the case, but he killed himself in November 2011.

His son was eventually cleared of any involvement in the Lankey case.

For Foster, the determination to find who killed her daughter continues.

"We've been doing this (vigil) for eight years," she said. "And every year we find something more, and something more. We as a family feel that this will be the year, the year that Amanda finally gets justice."
