HART, Mich. (WOOD) - A man has pleaded no contest to running over his wife and her boyfriend with a pickup truck, killing the woman.
Julian Hernandez Zapata pleaded no contest to open murder and attempted murder on Sept. 27.
Zapata, 39, struck his estranged wife Andrea Garcia-Gonzalez and her new boyfriend Sabastian Rios-Guerrero with a farm truck as they stood near a Hart intersection in May.
Garcia-Gonzalez and Zapata, who have four children together, were in the process of getting a divorce.
Zapata initially aimed his truck at Rios-Guerrero, according to the Oceana County Sheriff's Department's investigation, but his wife got in the way and they were both struck. Garcia-Gonzalez was dragged under the truck for several feet.
Zapata then allegedly turned the truck around, aimed at Rios-Guerrero and struck him again.
Garcia-Conzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. Rios-Guerrero was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital in critical condition.
At the time, authorities said Zapata admitted to investigators he had planned to run his romantic rival over.
Sentencing is set for Oct. 8, 2012.
