NEWAYGO, Mich. (WOOD) - A Newaygo man was convicted Tuesday of murder after shooting his longtime friend and neighbor in the face in 2011.
James Traxler Jr. was convicted in the Newagyo County Circuit Court of second-degree murder and felony firearm.
Traxler, 62, shot Michael Boynton, 51, on June 25, 2011 in the backyard of the suspect's home in the 200 block of Fremont Street in Newaygo.
Boynton was mowing the lawn. The two argued, police said at the time, and then Traxler pulled a handgun and shot Boynton in the face, killing him instantly.
In June 2011, police told 24 Hour News 8 that Traxler had confessed to the crime.
Sentencing has not yet be scheduled.
