WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WOOD) - A memorial service will be held following the burial of the last remains of a 2004 murder victim.
Amanda Lankey, 13, of White Cloud was found murdered in the Manistee National Forest in July 2004. She had disappeared two weeks earlier while spending the night at a friend's home.
When Lankey's family originally buried her, they had only partial remains. Her mother Victoria Foster said that detectives kept Amanda's skull and hands as evidence.
"When Amanda was killed, she was brutally beaten and they had to put her skull back together, try to figure out how many times she was hit," Foster told 24 Hour News 8 in November 2012.
In November 2012, authorities told Foster that they would release the rest of Amanda's remains.
The memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Feb. 4 at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock not far from Detroit. A second service will be held Feb. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nonno's Restaurant in White Cloud.
Former White Cloud police officer Candace Wallis-Baumgartner and her son Marcus Wallis now face perjury charges for allegedly lying to investigators during the murder investigation. They have been ordered to stand trial.
