MIO, Mich. (WOOD) - Authorities say a wildfire in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula has burned at least 1,500 acres and forced the evacuation of about 50 homes, upnorthlive.com reports.

The fire in Jack Pine Forest in the Mack Lake area near Mio was 100% contained Thursday morning.

A cause of the fire that started about 7 p.m. Wednesday is unknown at this time.

There were no reports of injuries or burned structures, according to the Associated Press.

A shelter was set up at Mio High School and will be moved to the Oscoda County Building later Thursday.

Some rain helped douse the flames but there are concerns about high winds later Thursday to push the fire past the containment, a U.S. Forest Service spokesperson told 24 Hour News 8.

The U.S. Forest Service, Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State Police, sheriff's department and contractors are using heavy machinery at the charred site.
