GAYLORD, Mich. (AP) - Six years after being mistaken for dead, Whitney Cerak has become a mother.
Cerak was among students at Taylor University in Indiana whose van was rammed by a semitruck on April 26, 2006. Five people were killed. A heavily bandaged Cerak was misidentified as Laura Van Ryn, who had a similar appearance.
A funeral was held for Cerak in her hometown of Gaylord, while Van Ryn's parents kept vigil by the hospital bedside of the woman they believed was their daughter. Weeks later, they discovered the truth.
Since recovering from her injuries, the 25-year-old Cerak has gotten married.
The NBC program "Dateline" reports that she had a baby boy a month ago. In an interview scheduled to air Tuesday at 10 p.m. on WOOD TV8, Cerak says she remains close to Van Ryn's family.
