ROSCOMMON, Mich. (AP) - Police in Michigan are searching for a home invasion suspect they say took a deputy's gun and escaped while being transported to a court appearance.

WPBN-WTOM-TV reports sheriff's officials say Everett A. Robinson was being taken from the Roscommon County jail to court in Arenac County on Monday when he reached through a partition, got into a struggle with a deputy, took the deputy's gun and drove the vehicle for a short distance before escaping on foot.

Authorities designated a search area and used a state police helicopter, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources plane, search dogs, emergency response teams and others to look for Robinson.

The search continued Tuesday. WWTV-WWUP says a number of roads and schools in the search area were closed as a result of the manhunt.
