CLARE, Mich. (WOOD/AP) - What was believed to be an alligator in a northern Lower Peninsula lake turned out to be a garden statue.
WWTV-WWUP reported Wednesday two young girls spotted the 2 1/2-foot-long animal several times in Lake Shamrock, located in Clare County about 80 miles north of Lansing.
Authorities searched at the lake Wednesday, but they didn't find one.
Then on Thursday morning, upnorthlive.com tweeted that police said the incident was a false alarm after locating the statue.
Alligators usually don't live in the wild in Michigan, but they're sometimes found after people raise them as pets and release them.
