HOLTON, Mich. (WOOD) - A camp counselor in Muskegon County was found safe after other counselors lost sight of him as he swam in a nearby lake.
The group of Camp Blackhawk counselors was partying late Sunday night and into early Monday morning following the last night of camp near Big Blue Lake in Holton.
The group was not on Oak Knoll Campground property and no longer in charge of watching campers as camp had ended, officials told 24 Hour News 8 at the scene.
Police were called at 5 a.m. when one of the counselors disappeared.
Four rescue personnel crews arrived at the scene and dispatched for a US Coast Guard helicopter.
Some of the counselors went back to the campground to see if their friend was there and noticed him walking around.
The 22-year-old had swum across the lake.
