MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - Some Muskegon County residents, contacted by pranksters about missing jury duty, contacted the sheriff's department to complain.
The residents told the sheriff they were called or received emails informing them they missed jury duty, that there is a bench warrant for their arrest, and they have an option of paying a fine or serving a jail sentence.
"The entire thing is a scam and it tells you to pass it on to trick your friends. It is part of something called the Humor Hotline," Sheriff Dean Roesler said in a release Thursday afternoon.
This kind of harassment is a misdemeanor, Roesler said. A representative from the Muskegon County Jury Clerk's office will always properly identify themselves, he said.
