MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - 24 Hour News 8 was able to obtain the personnel file of former Mona Shores choir paraprofessional, Michael D'Oyly, while he worked at the school before an investigation into inappropriate sexual conduct with students began.
The 70-page file begins by positively acknowledging Mike D'Oyly in April 2011 by saying he is "an extremely valuable and committed employee. Mike's role in our choir program is important to its success and his work has been exemplary. In addition, Mike has demonstrated an ability to build relationships with students. We are extremely fortunate to have Mike as a member of our staff."
In a 2004 review, the choir paraprofessional was also noted for doing "an outstanding job in his position as an accompanist in the Choir Department at Mona Shores High School. Mike's most redeeming qualities include his love for the students and his willingness to go far beyond what is expected of him in this position." The review continues saying without D'Oyly " the choir program at Mona Shores would not be able to maintain its current level of excellence."
But the tone of the file seems to change on Jan. 6, when the Mona Shores district sent D'Oyly a letter saying he was placed on administrative leave beginning Jan. 3 pending completion of an investigation by the district. The suspension was paid through Jan. 6, then unpaid after Jan. 6.
The district letter said "during our meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, you refused to provide any information or otherwise cooperate in the district's investigation when asked about the suspected inappropriate conduct you engaged in with students and/or on school grounds. Please immediately let me know if you change your mind and decide to participate in the district's investigation."
Then on Jan. 10 the district sent him a certified letter signed by Superintendent Dave Peden saying his employment was terminated "as a result of his having engaged in inappropriate conduct with students and/or on school grounds."
