NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WOOD) - A Mona Shores paraprofessional was arrested after allegations surfaced that he had inappropriate sexual interactions with students.
Mike D'Oyly was arrested by officers from the Norton Shores Police Department on Tuesday. He is being held on charges of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct/forcible contact, according to Muskegon County Jail records.
Records also indicate that D'Oyly will be arraigned on Wednesday in the 60th District Court in Muskegon.
Further information on the case is being withheld pending D'Oyly's arraignment, according to the Norton Shores Police Department.
D'Oyly works as a music paraprofessional at Mona Shores High School, where he is the choir accompanist.
Mona Shores School District Superintendent Dave Peden said D'Oyly first started working with the choir back in 1989, but didn't become an official district employee until 2000.
He is currently on paid administrative leave and has been told by the district to stay off of school property.
Peden told 24 Hour News 8 on Friday that the parent of a former student contacted them on New Year's Eve with concerns that D'Oyly may have had inappropriate sexual interactions with students.
He said the district looked into it, and within hours of starting their internal investigation, it was clear something was wrong.
"We started our internal investigation on Tuesday morning [after the holiday], by about three o clock Tuesday afternoon, it was clear that there was enough stuff here, that that person was absolutely correct," said Peden. "For the safety of our students, we needed some outside help from the Norton Shores Police Department."
Musekgon County Prosecutor Tony Tague told 24 Hour News 8 on Friday that officials found, through search warrants, explicit pictures and text messages that D'Oyly allegedly sent to students.
24 Hour News 8 was told there is more than one victim, and each victim is underage. Tague said as the investigation is still underway, they don't yet have a total number of potential victims.
"I look forward to the day where I see him in handcuffs," said Peden on Friday.
D'Oyly is currently being held without bond.
