MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) - Muskegon Heights police are working an active homicide investigation after an 18-year-old male was fatally shot.
The Michigan State Police mobile crime lab assisted officers at the scene near Sixth Street and Hume Avenue Thursday night.
Neighbors told the Muskegon Chronicle a car -- possibly a white Honda sedan -- was parked in front of a house when multiple assailants ran from the vehicle to the house, fired several gunshots, ran back to the car and drove away.
The victim was transported to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus and died, according to the Muskegon Chronicle.
The victim's name has not yet been released, but family members at the hospital told the Chronicle his age, that he was shot in the buttocks and the bullet ricocheted off a bone into his heart.
Muskegon Heights Police Chief Lynne Gill told the newspaper that police do not yet have a suspect.
