MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) - Muskegon Heights police are investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning.
Muskegon Heights Police Chief Lynne Gill confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 the victim is 19-year-old Quinton Miller.
Police told 24 Hour News 8 the young man was found dead in the 2400 block of Sixth Street. They determined he was shot on Seventh Street between W. Hovey Avenue and W. Hume Avenue.
Police believe the victim left the scene of the shooting on Seventh Street and was on Sixth Street when he collapsed from his injuries.
Miller was a Muskegon High School 2012 graduate who played on the school's football team during the 2011 season.
Members of the Michigan State Police Crime Lab were at the scene assisting in the investigation Saturday. Authorities used metal detectors to look for shell casings at the scene; five were located by late Saturday morning.
Authorities had the area around the scene on Seventh Street blocked as they conducted their investigation.
