MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a high school student in West Michigan has been hit by a vehicle whose driver told investigators he thought he struck a deer.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports the 16-year-old girl was hit by a mirror of the vehicle Monday morning in Muskegon County, near Muskegon.
The Reeths-Puffer High School student was standing near a bus stop and was knocked down. She was taken to a hospital for surgery.
Authorities say the 42-year-old driver from Muskegon County's Fruitland Township initially left the scene but returned after realizing a person had been hit.
