MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - A 13-year-old girl launched her grandmother's car on top of another car in a mall parking lot, police say.
It happened at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday outside The Lakes Mall in Muskegon, according to Fruitport Township Public Safety Director Ken Doctor.
Doctor said the girl was waiting in the car and listening to the radio while her grandmother was in Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Then, Doctor said, the girl got behind the wheel, drove the car into a tree, a utility pole before sending it on top of another car.
"I couldn't even...My first question was, 'How could that even happen?'" said witness Kailey Sharp. "It's not every day you see a car on top of two other cars like that. ...It's crazy."
One of the vehicles the car landed half on top of was smashed and missing the driver's side mirror. That was Rosemary Weigel's car. She couldn't believe her eyes when she walked out of work.
"A car on top of my car," said Weigel. "How does something like that happen?"
Weigel said her car still works, but she can't open the driver's side door.
The girl suffered what appeared to be a panic attack and was taken to a hospital, Doctor said. She did not sustain any physical injuries.
Both the girl and her grandmother will likely face charges, Doctor said.
"I'm sure that it was a lesson learned by both," said Weigel.
The grandmother declined to comment over the phone to 24 Hour News 8.
The owner of another damaged car told 24 Hour News 8 her car is totaled.
