MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - Hundreds of people showed up to Muskegon's Heritage Landing Friday for a public prayer vigil for the 10 motorcyclists hit on a Wisconsin road.
"They come together from all over. It doesn't matter. If someone falls, someone dies, they're there to support," said Irmgard Johnson who attended the Vigil.
Attendees held candles, bowed heads, and shed tears for the Muskegon motorcycle gang members involved in the deadly crash that happened Thursday on Highway 151, northeast of Milwaukee.
59-year-old Dan Winsemius didn't survive.
Winsemius' childhood friend Mary Ann Holcomb described him as a considerate, kind man who loved his friends and family.
Holcomb also knew the guys who rode up north with him.
"They took the time off to go up along the scenic route of Wisconsin and to meet the rest of the group that annually does this," said Holcomb.
This is a very difficult time for the tight knit group of motorcyclists who told 24 Hour News 8 that no words could describe how they feel, but "horrific" is close enough.
This is not first time tragedy has struck the Muskegon Motorcycle Gang. JoAnn Corbin, 56, died in a crash during a charity ride in North Carolina in August 2009. The MMG held a fundraiser May 28 in her honor.
"It's a camaraderie you know. You all ride together. You hang out together. You're family," said Jamie Russell who attended the vigil.
The other bikers who were hit by the vehicle include:
Douglas Williams, 58, from Muskegon -- critical condition
Douglas Yonkers, 43, from Muskegon -- critical condition
Eric Vandam, 52, from Muskegon -- critical condition
Garry Ferris, 52, from Muskegon -- hospitalized
Leland Johnson, 58, from Muskegon -- hospitalized
Marvin Vanderkolk, 63, from Fruitport -- treated and released from hospital
Lawrence Monroe, 59, from Muskegon -- treated and released from hospital
Paul Czekus, 57, from Ravenna -- treated and released from hospital
William Groom, 57, from Muskegon -- not injured
Two of the bikers were not hit by the vehicle --
Guy Weersing, 58, from Muskegon
Mark Messany, 51, from Muskegon
"The rest of the gentlemen that were involved, some have come home...others are still in the hospital," said Holcomb. "We can only hope that those that are still over in Wisconsin can come home soon."
According to the Muskegon Motorcycle Gang's website , a PNC bank account will be active beginning Saturday for anyone who wants to make donations to the " MMG Motorcycle Tragedy Fund."
