NORTON SHORES, MICH. (WOOD) - A teen who claimed she was bitten by a man after a screening of the latest Twilight movie "New Moon" now admits she made the story up.
Erin Westrate told police and 24 Hour News 8 she was bitten by a man after watching the film with friends at Cinema Carousel in Norton Shores.
Westrate claimed the man made comments to her and a friend inside the theatre and then bit her after the movie ended.
Westrate talked to police and they released surveillance video of a man who may have been involved.
Lt. Tim Lavigne of the Norton Shores Police Department told 24 Hour News 8 they interviewed Westrate again on Wednesday morning and determined she was not being truthful with her original story.
Police say Westrate admitted to embellishing her story and that she was flirting with the man involved. Authorities say there may have been physical contact between Westrate and the man, but it was not an assault.
Police say they could file charges against Westrate for filing a false police report.
When asked by 24 Hour News 8 on Tuesday if she was being completely honest, Westrate said, "I did not make this up at all. And for people who say that, I think it's pretty s----y, to be honest. 'Cause when something like this happens, I don't think it should go unnoticed."
"New Moon" is the latest movie in the Twilight saga and has set
records since it opened.
