MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Muskegon Heights police officer's home was searched Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation at the department.
The officer is not being disciplined at this time, a source within the department said. Michigan State Police investigators are not calling him a suspect and he is still employed at the department.
MHPD has been under investigation by state police after an audit of the evidence room determined some of the money collected as evidence was missing.
"I will confirm that we did conduct a search warrant and evidence was seized. The investigation is ongoing and I still expect it will take a couple of months," MSP Detective Lt. Curt Schram told 24 Hour News 8.
A computer and financial records were seized during the search, sources close to the situation confirmed.
Some of the people who live in the area and witnessed the investigation said one marked police vehicle and four or five other unmarked police cars were parked in front of the officer's home for at least two hours.
The case will then be forwarded to the prosecutor's office, where it will be determined if charges are filed.
