Body of biker killed in WI returns home

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - The body of a Twin Lake motorcyclist who died in a Wisconsin crash last week returned home to Michigan Sunday afternoon.

Dan Winsemius, 59, was riding May 31 on Highway 151 north of Milwaukee when police said a car crossed the center line and barreled into a formation of 12 motorcycles from the Muskegon Motorcycle Gang.

Hundreds lined the waterway at Pere Marquette Park as a ferry brought Winsemius' body home.

Then a motorcycle motorcade escorted the casket to a local funeral home.

Motorcycle rider Randy Whipple didn't know Winsemius, but came to pay tribute anyway.

"When we lose one motorcyclist, everybody loses. It's not just one person. It's all of us that lose. That's the way we are. We stick together," said Whipple.

Eight more of the bikers involved in the crash were injured. As of June 1, five remained hospitalized.

The driver of the car was also hurt. The 25-year-old Wisconsin man faces charges of negligent homicide and felony bail jumping.

Hundreds gathered at a candlelight vigil on June 1 for the bikers involved in the crash.

The Muskegon Motorcycle Gang has been around since the 1970s and may be better known as MMG. The motorcyclists involved in the wreck were on an extended cycle ride and headed home from an MMG event.

Memorial contributions can be made to the MMG Motorcycle Tragedy Fund at any PNC Bank branch. That fund will go toward travel and medical expenses for the injured and their families, according to MMG.
