MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - About $8,000 was raised to help a girl who was attacked by a raccoon as a baby get reconstructive surgery.
Charlotte Ponce was only a few months old in 2002 when she was attacked by the raccoon her parents kept as a pet. The attack caused extensive damage to now-10-year-old Charlotte's face, including her lip, nose and right ear.
Now, Charlotte is scheduled to get reconstructive surgery at a Royal Oak hospital in a few weeks.
To help pay for the procedure, Charlotte's family hosted a fundraiser. 300 to 400 people attended the spaghetti dinner in Muskegon Friday evening. Most donated more than the price of dinner.
The expenses to be covered by the fundraiser include travel expenses and lodging while the Ponces are in the Detroit area.
