FAIRPLAINS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Rescue personnel needed to extricated a man from his vehicle after it crashed along a Montcalm County road.

Paul Kutzli was driving south on M-66 when witnesses said his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree south of Sessions Road in Fairplains Township.

The 52-year-old from Sheridan was pinned in his car.

Rescue personnel arrived at the scene at 10:58 a.m. Tuesday, helped Kutzli out of his car, and took him to Sheridan Community Hospital where he was later airlifted to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The cause has yet to be determined, however, no mechanical or external reason has yet been identified," according to a news release.

Investigators also do not know if alcohol was a factor.

Kutzli was not wearing a seat belt, police said in a news release.
