CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Authorities are trying to determine if charges should be filed after a young man was shot as he and another man were disassembling guns.

Montcalm County sheriff's deputies were dispatched Saturday night to Carson City Hospital after receiving a report of a gunshot victim receiving treatment.

An 18-year-old man had been shot in a leg from a .45 caliber handgun, police said, as he and a 23-year-old man were disassembling their weapons at a home in Crystal Township.

The older man thought he unloaded his handgun, and while trying to disassemble the weapon, police said, the gun discharged and shot the other man.

Someone in a private vehicle then transported the younger man to the hospital.

The investigation continues and the prosecutor's office will review the case.
