SHERIDAN, Mich. (WOOD) - A man is accused of stealing $100 worth of items from a store after "acting strangely" inside the business for nearly two-and-a-half hours.

Staff of the Dollar General store, 306 N. Main St. in Sheridan, called 911 just before 9 p.m. Monday after noticing the suspicious customer.

Montcalm County sheriff's deputies arrived and saw the suspect in the parking lot, as he was trying to leave.

Police noticed he was in possession of items that were stolen from the store.

The 40-year-old Orleans man was arrested in connection with the theft.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, as the suspect may be responsible for similar crimes in neighboring communities.

Michigan State Police assisted in the investigation.
