PIERSON, Mich. (WOOD) - The search continues in Montcalm County for Alan Phelps who authorities said was involved in a chase with Michigan State Police troopers late Wednesday night.
Police originally tried to stop Phelps' vehicle for violating a traffic law. But Phelps sped away and collided with another civilian vehicle, which rolled several times on U.S. 131 in a one-lane construction zone near the Pierson exit, police said.
The trooper who was chasing Phelps stopped to help the driver of the flipped car who suffered minor injuries.
More police were called to continue the pursuit, including officers from the Howard Police Department.
After striking that other vehicle, Phelps turned off his vehicle's headlights and exited the highway where he was able to escape police.
Dispatchers also told 24 Hour News 8 that at one point during the chase Phelps drove south in the northbound lanes of the highway.
Police were able to identify Phelps during the original pursuit. Phelps is originally from Morley and has several felony warrants out for his arrest.
It was about 9 a.m. Thursday when Phelps was spotted driving near Four Mile Road and Northland Drive in southern Mecosta County. Police conducted an extensive search in this area but could not locate him.
Anyone with information on where Phelps might be is asked to call 911 immediately.
