STANTON, Mich. (WOOD) - A Howard City man accused of crashing into a 20-year-old man has accepted a plea deal.

Ronald Williams, 57, failed to stop after allegedly striking Tyler Helton in the 19000 block of Stanton Road, northeast of Sand Lake, on the night of April 21, 2012. Helton was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital for treatment but died the next morning.

Williams was originally charged with one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death and one count of failure to report an accident.

On Wednesday, Williams pleaded no contest to the second count (failure to report an accident). The first count was dismissed.

Helton's father, Marty, told 24 Hour News 8 in April he was told Williams thought his vehicle had hit a deer.
