CRYSTAL, Mich. (WOOD) - Two people are accused of trying to steal some metal items with the intention of selling them for scrap.
The Ithaca residents -- 20-year-old Trevor Haynak and a 16-year-old -- were in Crystal March 17 when they "spotted an area among some trees that held several metal items," according to a news release.
They then began to grab the items when the items' owner confronted them, police said.
The owner called 911 around 5:30 p.m.
Montcalm County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and arrested Haynak. He was arraigned the next day on a misdemeanor charge of larceny of more than $200 but less than $1,000. A bond of $1,000 was set at the arraignment.
A juvenile petition was forwarded to the Montcalm County Prosecutor's Office for review on the teen's role in the case.
All of the items were returned to their original location.
