GREENVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - A man who was trapped by fire in a second-floor bedroom says someone intentionally set clothes in the room ablaze.
Two Greenville Public Safety officers and a firefighter used a ladder to rescue 65-year-old Dennis Vanderzand from the window.
Vanderzand was taken to a hospital for treatment following the Jan. 13 incident in the 300 block of E. Cass Street.
An 83-year-old woman was on the first floor of the home when rescue personnel arrived at the scene. They helped her get out of the house safely. She was also hospitalized for treatment.
It is that woman who Vanderzand says started the fire, according to a news release.
A search warrant was executed inside the home and investigators now say the fire was intentionally set in the upstairs bedroom of the house.
Once the report is completed it will be sent to the Montcalm County Prosecutor's Office for review regarding arson-related charges.
