PIERSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - The body of a 31-year-old mother was found in the basement of a house in Montcalm County, and authorities have a person of interest in custody in what is being treated as a homicide.
Neighbors, friends and family told 24 Hour News 8 the victim is Julie Danielson.
Just before 4 a.m. Saturday, authorities were called to the house in the 4000 block of Whitefish Woods Drive in Pierson Township to investigate an assault. Danielson was found in the basement at that time.
Danielson is a mother of twin boys who were not in the house at the time, according to family members.
This death was not a random act of violence, authorities said, and do not believe the neighbors or public are in any danger.
For neighbors like Melissa Hopping, the sight of crime scene tape was shocking.
"It was crazy. It's unsettling to wake up and to have that happen across the street," Hopping said.
