RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A 9-year-old girl was seriously injured when a car hit her as she rode her bicycle.
A 64-year-old woman was driving east on E. Kendaville Road east of Douglas Road south of Vestaburg.
The car went over a hill and the driver saw the girl crossing the road en route to her driveway.
The driver braked the car and veered to avoid striking the child, but was unable to avoid a collision, according to a news release.
Rescue personnel arrived at the scene at 8:42 p.m. Wednesday.
An ambulance took the girl to MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot in Alma. A medical helicopter then took her to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.
It is not believed that alcohol or drugs were a factor, police said, however the driver from Vestaburg did submit to a voluntary blood test.
The Montcalm County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the crash.
