STANTON, Mich. (WOOD) - Montcalm County Dive Team recovered the body of a DeWitt teenager from a lake Friday night hours after the family reported him missing.
The body of 16-year-old James Joseph McCarthy, from DeWitt Michigan, was pulled from Clifford Lake, which is near Douglass in Montcalm County, late Friday night.
His family told deputies they saw James getting ready to go kayaking around 8 p.m., and then lost sight of him. His grandmother called 911 after they couldn't see him any more.
It took rescue crews about two hours to find his body. The body was located in eight feet of water, about 30 yards off shore.
Deputies say alcohol was not a factor.
