WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) - A 17-year-old Wyoming boy has drowned after he went too far into the pond at Battjes Park in Wyoming.
Dispatchers received a call around 11:40 a.m Saturday of a person struggling in the water. Wyoming Police responded to the area.
Georgetown Township Dive Team was called in to assist the crews in the water rescue.
Wyoming Police tell 24 Hour News 8 the victim, Douglas Scott Payne, was swimming with his brother and a friend in the pond when the victim ventured too far into the deep water. The teenager struggled and screamed for help. One of the others got out of the water and ran to neighboring homes for help.
A Wyoming PD officer went into the pond to rescue the teenager, but was unsuccessful. Rescue crews recovered the Payne's body from the water Saturday afternoon.
According to Wyoming Police, Payne attended Godwin High School in Wyoming.
