Thieves target package deliveries

UPS suggests requiring signature

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Dave Durkee had a package delivered to his house Thursday. He almost didn't get it.

"My wife came out and the package was here and she turned the light on, went to get the package and realized there was a car in the drive," he told 24 Hour News 8.

One man was walking up his driveway, he said, while another waited in a van. This happened just minutes after the delivery driver dropped off the package. When they saw his wife come out of the house, they took off.

Durkee is certain the pair was following the delivery driver as he made his rounds.

UPS suggests requiring a signature on your delivery. The package will not be delivered without your signature, and if you're not available then, UPS will make three attempts to deliver it. Requiring a signature carries a service fee, but it's better than not getting your package at all.
