ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Numerous items were stolen from a storage unit facility and later sold at an unauthorized auction, and the suspects may be former employees.
Several victims have been identified, including Grand Rapids Griffin and Detroit Red Wing Gustav Nyquist, police said.
According to a news release, the puck Nyquist scored his first NHL goal with at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 26, 2012 -- now mounted on a plaque -- is one of the many items that were reported missing after the Oct. 3, 2012 auction.
Only some of the stolen items were auctioned off. After receiving a tip, authorities investigated an undisclosed location and recovered property stolen from Evergreen Storage in the 4000 block of Alpine Avenue in Comstock Park.
Among those items was Nyquist's puck.
There have not yet been any arrests in the thefts.
Those who use the facility are asked to check their storage unit to see if anything's missing. Victims are asked to compile a list of their missing property, including a description and value for each item, and call the Kent County Sheriff's Department at 616.632.6125 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
