GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - There are still two weeks until the Cabela's store in Grandville officially opens to the public.

But the media got a sneak peek Tuesday inside the business at 3000 44th St. SW, which is 88,000 square feet of hunting, fishing and camping gear.

This will be the third store in Michigan, joining sites in Dundee and Saginaw, and ranks No. 2 in size compared to the other two locales.

About 5,000 shoppers are expected at the grand opening at 11 a.m March 21. The store will employ about 300 part- and full-time employees.

The store has everything from an archery range, to rows and rows of rifles in its gun library, not to mention a place where you can taste wild game. Store officials plan to host demonstrations and seminars to customers.

With nearly 2 million people who hunt and fish in the state, pouring in $5 billion a year to the economy, it is clear the newest store will do a lot of business.

In an interview with the Grand Rapids Business Journal's Bill Bussey, managing member of Retail and Restaurant Site Advisors, said typically Cabela's considers its primary market area to be a 150-mile radius from the store.

"Grandville, being so close to I-196 and U.S. 131, it's a great gateway up north, for hunters who hunt near Manistee, Traverse City that might not have been able to get near Dundee as often," Randy Rice, Cabela's retail marketing manager told 24 Hour News 8.
