Woman dead after I-96 ramp rollover

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Rescue crews are on the scene of a rollover accident at a busy interstate exchange in Cascade Township.

Around 11 a.m. Saturday, dispatchers were called about a rollover accident at an I-96/28th Street ramp.

The Kent County Sheriff 911 Dispatch Center sent out a traffic alert around 11:20 a.m saying "Eastbound On Ramp at 28th Street from I-96 is closed due to an accident".

Michigan State Police say it appears the car was going on to the Eastbound On Ramp at 28th Street too fast; this caused the car to roll several times.

Authorities on scene tell 24 Hour News 8 that one woman, a backseat passenger, was killed. Two other women, who were the front seat passenger and the driver, were injured; at least one had critical injuries.

Authorities have not released the names of the people involved in the rollover, but did say all three women are believed to be from the Traverse City area and the three women were not related.

Michigan State Police continue to investigate the accident.
