GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - An 18-year-old Comstock Park resident was charged with filing a false police report after telling investigators he was pulled over by a police impersonator in early November.
John Russell Sturdavant faces a 93-day misdemeanor for his report.
Around 7:50 p.m. on Nov. 1, Sturdavant was headed south on Peach Ridge Avenue near 15 Mile Road in Sparta Township and said he saw what appeared to be a silver, newer-model Pontiac Bonneville with tinted windows activate two flashing blue lights on its dashboard.
Assuming it was a police officer, Sturdavant pulled over, he told police at that time, and said a man got out of the Bonneville and had a flashlight in his hand.
But after an investigation, police did not believe his story.
Detectives now believe Sturdavant and another driver were involved in a road-rage incident that night, and he filed the "impersonator" report because he was angry and wanted that driver charged.
The other driver has not yet been identified, and that part of the investigation continues.
Sturdavant will turn himself in to face these charges, officials said.
