Police: Cherry Creek vandalism targeted

LOWELL, Mich. (WOOD) - Police think at least two suspects got into Cherry Creek Elementary School, possibly through an unlocked door, sometime between June 21-25, and spray painted a large area in one section of the Lowell school.

"More than likely it is probably former students, but it technically (could) be anybody," said Lowell Detective Scot VanSolkema.
 
The weapon of choice was spray paint.

"Quite a bit of vulgar language spray painted throughout the room and on some of the equipment in the room, and we believe it was directed towards one particular staff member," he said. "We have spoken with the staff member and he doesn't know exactly why they would do this, either."
 
Investigators think the vandals were also thieves.

Four netbook computers are missing, upping the ante for the people involved.  

"These are felony charges. It's definitely larceny in a building, there's malicious destruction of property, various other crimes that can be associated with it."
 
Lowell police are being vague about many of the details. They don't want potential suspects to know what they know.  

So why go public now? The incident happened weeks ago.

Investigators said they thought they could solve the crime, but as days turned to weeks they decided to ask the public for help.

"We're assuming the people that did this were perhaps bragging about it and may tell somebody that has a conscience and alert the authorities," VanSolkema said.
