CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A plane had to return to a West Michigan airport and make an emergency landing Thursday morning after an engine light came on during its flight.

An official with the Federal Aviation Administration told 24 Hour News 8 that American Eagle Flight 2829 was flying from the Gerald R. Ford International Airport to the Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport.

A passenger told 24 Hour News 8 the plane was boarded at 6:30 a.m. with a scheduled departure time of 7 a.m.

The pilot reported a right engine malfunctioning indicator light was on 19 minutes into the flight, according to the FAA., and he requested to return to the Cascade Township airport.

FlightAware.com shows the Embraer ERJ-145 made it as far as Allegan, Mich.

Another passenger told 24 Hour News 8, "All they said was there was an incident about a half hour into the flight and we turned around, smelled smoke once we got landed. About 30 minutes [into the flight] didn't see any smoke but they had about 10 fire trucks waiting for us."

The aircraft landed without incident and there were no injuries to the passengers.

A maintenance crew is investigating the problem with the plane.

The first passenger told 24 Hour News 8 they were told the right engine overheated, everybody was deplaned and had to wait three hours to get rebooked for another flight.
