KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) - A pedestrian was taken to a hospital for treatment to potentially life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning.
The victim has been identified as Thomas Esdevez, 37, from Grand Rapids. He is in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
Police at the scene told 24 Hour News 8 Esdevez got off a bus at a stop area near 28th Street and Shaffer Avenue SE in Kentwood, and was crossing the street at the time.
The man was about five feet from reaching the other side of 28th Street when he was hit, Kentwdoo Police Chief Richard Mattice said.
Investigators said Esdevez was thrown about 50 feet due to the collision with the vehicle.
The driver told police it was dark at the time, just before 7 a.m., and felt the impact but didn't see the victim. The driver then turned his vehicle around and saw Esdevez in the road.
There isn't a crosswalk in the area where this accident occurred.
