WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) - Talks continue to escalate in Wyoming as the district tries to decide how to adjust to serving significantly fewer students.
Parents met with school leaders on Wednesday to talk about combining Wyoming Park and Rogers high schools.
Over the past few years, the district's student population has decreased from about 8,000 to fewer than 5,000.
The school district already closed some schools in recent years to respond to the changes.
If the district continues to downsize and combines the high schools, it could save $1.5 million.
Most of the parents at the meeting supported the merger.
"To offer out kids the best opportunity, I think it is going to be necessary," said Doreen Huizenga. "Whether it's in a few months or whether it's in a couple years, I think it's going to have to happen."
The school board plans to vote on the plan to combine the schools in March.
