BARRE, Vt. (AP) - A former student of a Vermont military college is going to spent 2 1/2 years in prison for driving drunk in a crash that killed a Norwich University student and critically injured three others last fall.

Derek Seber was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to the charges in July.

Police say Seber was driving drunk when he crashed his car packed with seven passengers returning to school from an off-campus party last Oct. 2. The crash killed Norwich freshman, 18-year-old Renee Robbins, of Kentwood, Mich.

In an emotional two-hour sentencing hearing in court in Barre, the 23-year-old Seber, who is from Gaithersburg, Md., apologized to the court and the Robbins family.

But the victim's father, Mark Robbins, of Oxford, Mass. , called Seber a coward and said he took his first born.
