GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A man who went on a racist rant inside a West Michigan store will serve time in jail.

Eric Scott Pierson was sentenced to nine months in jail and 60 months probation.

He pleaded no contest in March to assault with a dangerous weapon, felonious assault, ethnic intimidation and for being a habitual offender.

The incident happened in February at a store in Solon Township near Cedar Springs. Pierson came up to a black man and called him "dark chocolate."

He then pushed the man and pulled a knife on him.

He was ordered to leave, but came back and allegedly went to the same man, called him a racial slur and said he didn't belong in the store.
