LOWELL, Mich. (WOOD) - A Lowell man was taken into custody after fleeing from officers and being subdued by use of an officer's stun gun while resisting arrest.

Lowell police received a call around 9 p.m. Jan. 25 from child regarding a domestic violence incident inside a residence in the 200 block of Maple Street.

When officers arrived at the home, the suspect -- John Lee Crider -- fled on foot and was chased a few blocks away through a residential neighborhood near the retirement community of Schneider Manor. Officers were able to track him through the snow, according to a news release.

They spotted the 25-year-old hiding behind a vehicle.

Crider again ran away but eventually tackled by officers. Crider resisted officers' commands and fought with them, according to a news release.

Officers then used a Taser on him. Emergency responders were called to the scene, as part of standard procedure.

Crider now faces charges of felony domestic violence, interfering with a telecommunications device, and resisting and obstructing police.

According to several Lowell police officials, the use of a Taser by the department is a rare occurrence.

Lowell Police Chief Barry Getzen said, as per department policy, the incident will be reviewed.
