Local marriage expert to visit troops

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - With divorce rates rising among service men and women, the military is calling on a Kent County author to help battle marriage problems.
Emerson Eggerichs, author of the best-selling book "Love and Respect," is going to Iraq in January. He will meet with soldiers at multiple bases, holding three-hour mini-conferences, talking to troops about how to have a successful marriage.
In November, the military released statistics noting in the 2009 fiscal year alone there were more than 27,000 divorces among servicemembers. The military says those numbers have been rising steadily since 2001.
