KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) - In a special meeting in Kentwood on Friday, the Kentwood City Commission appointed a new member to replace a previous member who was a felon.
The commission unanimously recommeded Maurice Groce to fill the 2nd Ward seat through November of 2013.
Raymond VerWys had formerly held that position, but was removed after voters approved a new ordiance saying convicted felons can't serve on the city commission.
Thirteen applicants applied for the vacancy.
Groce will be sworn into office at the Kentwood City Commission meeting on Feb. 7.
