GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Nearly two years after Jamie Powell was killed in her apartment in Walker, a jury convicted Karl Cotton Jr of first-degree murder.

Cotton was found guilty in the premeditated killing of Powell in her Old Orchard Apartment on March 5, 2011. She was shot multiple times that day.

He wasn't arrested for 14 months. But when he was , court documents revealed Cotton drove from Benton Harbor to Grand Rapids for a drug deal.

Cotton and another man went to Powell's apartment, and when the deal didn't go as planned, the other man fled. A jury believed Cotton then killed the 30-year-old Powell.

He will be sentenced on February 14.
