WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) - The mother of a 4-year-old killed during Wyoming High School's homecoming parade last week spoke publically for the first time at a Monday vigil for the boy.

"I just want everybody to celebrate how special he was," said Mikaela Lamrouex. "He was my little angel."

Her son, Jordan Lamrouex, was walking in the parade on Friday when he fell beneath a parade float and was run over.

On Monday night, community members gathered at Gladiola Elementary School to remember the child. Boy Scouts handed out tissues.

"In our worst times, we must be our very best," said Wyoming Public Schools Superintendent Tom Reeder.

During the vigil, young children released balloons into the sky from the basketball court.

"I'm sorry for their loss," one young boy said.

The family picked orange balloons because that was Jordan's favorite color.

"He was really sweet. He was like a little firecracker. He was just always telling jokes. He was just really special," said Mikaela Lamrouex.

The family thanked the community for its support.

"I'm really thankful for everything that everybody's doing," said Mikaela Lamrouex.

"People need to know what kind of community we got here. I can't thank you enough," added grandfather Duane Sprague.

Jordan's mother is an employee in the school district. Each of the Wyoming schools has been accepting donations from those who want to support the family.

The Lamrouex family said visitation will be Tuesday at the Cook Funeral home in Grandville from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Grand Rapids First Assembly of God, 2100 44th St. SW in Wyoming.
