CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Six people escaped a fire inside a Kent County residence Monday morning.
Neighbors said they could hear smoke alarms beeping inside the home in the 8500 block of Keiser Drive SE in Caledonia Township.
Dispatchers received a call about 5:40 a.m. and sent crews from multiple fire departments to the scene.
Some on-call firefighters were the first to arrive and heard some of the residents yelling for help inside the home.
But the residents were able to get out safely on their own. Medical personnel tended to the residents at the scene but there were no serious injuries.
A preliminary investigation shows the fire started on the deck and went into the home. The kitchen sustained the most damage, and the roof collapsed in the middle of the home, officials at the scene told 24 Hour News 8.
The nearest fire hydrants are four miles away. Tanker trucks were also used at the scene.
