Grandpa: "He was just such a cool kid"

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) - Just days after 4-year-old Jordan Lamrouex died a Wyoming High School homecoming parade accident, his family is thanking the community for its outpouring of support.

On Sunday, Jordan's grandfathers shared memories of the boy with 24 Hour News 8. His family is remembering the 4-year-old as a very energetic boy. "He was a little people person already," said Duane Sprague, one of Jordan's grandfathers.

Sprague said his grandson was not a shy boy. "Where Jordan was, he lit up the room; he made his presence very well known," said Sprague.

Jordan's other grandpa, William Lamrouex, shared how much Jordan loved cars.

"He would just, he is just a rough and tumble little boy that didn't, wasn't afraid of getting dirty. He would lay on the ground and play with his cars. He was just such a cool kid," Lamrouex said.

On Friday, Jordan Lamrouex was walking beside a float after he was helped off by his parents. But while walking near the float with his parents and several other adults, he fell down and was run over by the trailer tires.

Jordan was seriously injured and rushed to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids where he later died.

Wyoming police investigators are close to completing their investigation. Police say so far, their investigation shows this was simply an accident. There is no evidence of any type of mechanical failure or negligence. The completed investigation will be given to the Kent County Prosecutor's Office for review. Police said this is standard procedure in any death investigation, and is not an indication of wrongdoing.

Both grandfathers said Jordan made an impact on the lives of others.

"He lived his life, as short as it was, I mean full out. He has taught us all many lessons in life, about don't take anything for granted, live it all full out, because he certainly did," Sprague said.

Jordan's death has left many in the community looking for ways to offer support to his family. On Saturday, the Wyoming Park High School class of 2002 took cash donations at its 10-year reunion for the Lamrouex family; Jordan's mother graduated from Wyoming Park in 2002.

Tom Reeder, Wyoming's Superintendent, told 24 Hour News 8 a vigil is planned for Monday at 7 p.m. at Gladiola Elementary School, 3500 Gladiola Ave. SW. The district is also trying to help the family with funeral costs by collecting funds at each of its schools. Families who wish to donate can bring a sealed envelope with funds labeled "Lamrouex Funds" to any school's central office beginning Monday morning.

The Lamrouex family said visitation will be Tuesday at the Cook Funeral home in Grandville from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Grand Rapids First Assembly of God, 2100 44th St. SW in Wyoming.
